The task was spread over several years. In 2010 and 2011 all planned objectives were achieved: archival searches were carried out in the Archivio Segreto Vaticano and digital copies of Polonica were made. The task comprises several stages, as it envisages the complete digitisation of this vast collection held in the Vatican.

The task comprises several stages, as it envisages the complete digitisation of this vast collection held in the Vatican.
In the stage carried out in 2010–2014, more than 23,685 archival folios were digitised from 48 different archival fonds covering various periods of Poland's relations with the Holy See (from the 16th–18th centuries, and selected copies from the interwar period of the 20th century). A project financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage is currently under way to obtain further copies from the Archivio Segreto Vaticano.
