The project is led by dr Wojciech Walczak. The research is conducted under his direction on the basis of an international agreement signed between the Institute for Research on the Cultural Heritage of Europe and the St Petersburg Institute of History, Russian Academy of Sciences.

The research has yielded copies (approx. 35,000 copies of archival materials) and approx. 2,000 archival descriptions produced in the course of the project.

In addition, a research project led by dr Wojciech Walczak is being carried out under the title “POLSKA” from the St Petersburg Institute of History, Russian Academy of Sciences – Description, Digitisation and Provision of Access, under Agreement No. 0040/NPRH2/H11/81 /2012 of 13 December 2012 with the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

As part of this research task, the Digital Repository of Polonica (https://repcyfr.pl) was also created – the first undertaking of such scale to bring together archival Polonica from outside Poland. To date, it has mainly hosted archival materials from the Swedish National Archives (Riksarkivet), namely the Skoklostersamlingen collection, which contains documents carried off by the Swedes in the 17th–18th centuries, but it also includes archival materials from the State Archives in Lviv. Other archival materials are being added as well, so that Polish readers have free access to Poland's historical heritage. Within 2 years the repository was visited by 350,000 readers, an impressive figure for a website consisting mainly of archival materials. The research has been conducted from 2010 to the present.
